About the Book

This book has been designed for the students preparing to clear the CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) General Science Paper I which is conducted by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) for science subjects. NET (National Eligibility Test) determines eligibility for lectureship and for award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for Indian nationals.

The present book for CSIR-UGC NET General Science Paper-1 is divided into five sections namely Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Computer Science, each sub-divided into number of chapters as per the syllabi of the examination. The Physics section has been divided into 11 chapters namely Measurement, Optics, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Modern Physics, etc whereas the Chemistry section covers States of Matter, Metallurgy, Inorganic Chemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, Qualitative Analysis, Equilibrium, Organic Chemistry, etc. The Mathematics section covers Algebra, Trigonometry, Integral Calculus, Differential Calculus, etc whereas Biology section covers Cell Biology, Ecology & Environment, Plant Physiology, Plant Anatomy, Genetics, etc. Each chapter in the book contains ample number of solved problems which have been designed on the lines of questions asked in previous years’ CSIR-UGC NET General Science Paper-1. Also unsolved practice exercises have been provided at the end of each chapter to help aspirants practice the concepts discussed in the chapters. The book also contains last three years’ (2010-2012) Solved Papers of CSIR-UGC NET General Science Paper-1 to help aspirants get an insight into the examination pattern and the types of questions asked therein.
